Meditation and the Five Elements

The mind is our most powerful tool. In a practice of meditation, we learn to engage the mind, harnessing its power in the direction of peace and harmony.
Meditation is not only about quieting the constant chatter of the mind. It can also be a spiritual practice, and in this course, we look at it from the perspective of the five elements in nature: earth, water, fire, air, and space. Working with the five elements as a framework enhances our capacity for deepening our self-insight, self-awareness, and mental equipoise.
Course outline:
Week 1: Earth element, why meditate, what is meditation, what is the mind, posture and movement as preparation for meditation
Week 2: Earth element continues, breathing and meditation, learning to observe
Week 3: Water element, feelings and emotions, how to breathe for meditation, observing and witnessing
Week 4: Air element, thoughts and awareness, disengaging with thoughts, focusing the mind
Week 5: Fire element, the light of the Soul, connecting and grounding with the true Self
Week 6: Space element, bringing it all together
